Learning to play music 1

Learning (1) play a musical instrument, is an activity which can give a lot of pleasure, as well (2) being an achievement and a skill, which stays with you for life. Music is relevant to everybody, often (3) called a primary language. But don't make the mistake of thinking it is easy, because it takes a lot of effort and determination.

Some people feel it is something they should do, rather (4) wanting to do it. This is not the right approach. Many adults regret not having learnt to play an instrument when they were younger, but they should not give (5) hope, as it is never too late to learn. What's more, the advantages of learning an instrument are far greater (6) just the pleasure of producing an interesting sound.

When you have made sufficient progress, there are plenty of amateur groups for you to join, if you wish to be part of a larger group. Also, once you've reached a good (7) standard to join a band or orchestra, you develop the team skills similar to those you get from playing sport. And finally, there is a great social side (8) playing with others, as well as the chance to travel, through touring.
